I Was Born And Raised In The Boondocks!

Little Big Town's song "Born and Raised in the Boondocks" (lyrics below this post), is a story about, well, it's a story about ME!!! This post proves it... Every time I hear that song I think of this place.

Labor day week-end, when I went home, to the ranch, to visit, me and the kids went out to Chevelon Canyon. This is a place where I spent a lot of time when I was growing up! It is about 20 miles, (on a dirt road), from the Ranch. There are a lot of places to play in the water. And just have some go old fashion fun!

So here we go... On our way. The girl's in my truck (me, Christen, Lena, Lily and Hemi) and the boys in Clint's truck (Clint, Jason and Porter). The boy's led, of course!

Pulled off the road, right before the bridge.

Walking to the bridge.
There it is... That old bridge.

"You get a line, I'll get a pole, We'll go fishin' in the crawfish hole"
I caught many a crawdads in this creek!
wait
Let me reword that...
I was with a lot of boys that caught a lot of crawdads in this creek! = )
I have been with many people over the years that have jumped. BUT NOT ME!!! I can't even hardly watch!!!

"I can feel that muddy water runnin' through my veins"

I was holding on to her so tight! It's pretty scary looking down off of that bridge!
Jason and Lily
Jason, Lily, Hemi, Lena and Me

My sweet Lena

The canyon...

Walkin' down to the water
Clint and Porter

Lena playin' in the dirt
Lily started it!!!!

Then Porter!
Lily and Porter had a blast playin' in that muddy water!

And playin'
And playin'
And playin' some more!

Porter had more fun than anyone!
He kept getting out and then would run and jump back in.
He was so cute!

Not Hemi!!! She's my girly girl. She didn't want anything to do with that muddy water! She just watched!
And watched...
Lena was filthy and tired, when we got back to the truck!
The end...
P.S. I grew up hearing that lullaby of a midnight train, or any other train for that matter! My Dad taught me how to play poker while camping, (usually on Saturday night). And I defiantly went to Church on Sunday morning! We had honeysuckle growing near the back porch my whole life. I learned to work hard, I learned about living and about loving...
(Chorus:)
I feel no shame
I'm proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks
One thing I know
No matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks
And I can feel
That muddy water running through my veins
And I can hear that lullaby of a midnight train
It sings to me and it sounds familiar
(Chorus)
And I can taste
That honeysuckle and it's still so sweet
When it grows wild
On the banks down at old camp creek
Yeah, and it calls to me like a warm wind blowing
(Chorus)
It's where I learned about living
It's where I learned about love
It's where I learned about working hard
And having a little was just enough
It's where I learned about Jesus
And knowing where I stand
You can take it or leave it, this is me
This is who I am
Give me a tin roof
A front porch and a gravel road
And that's home to me
It feels like home to me
(Chorus)
I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks
You get a line, I'll get a pole
We'll go fishing in the crawfish hole
Five-card poker on a Saturday night
Church on Sunday morning
(2x)
You get a line, I'll get a pole
We'll go fishing in the crawfish hole
(Down in the boondocks)
Five-card poker on a Saturday night
Church on Sunday morning

Boy that brings back some memories. I was born and raised in Phoenix and we spent a whole lotta time in the Verde and elsewhere. Also liked to go out to the desert around Easter and play softball. Big fun.
